OPEP - Training Courses

Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), has set out the requirement for personnel with oil spill response duties to be trained appropriately. The table below details the relevant accredited training courses offered by SpillConsult.

Course Overviews:

Corporate Manager Level 2

Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), OPEP Level 2 course is for those personnel selected to undertake the role of an executive or corporate decision-maker, or their advisor, during an oil spill incident.

Course Duration: 4 hours / half-day

Refresher Frequency: 3-years

Onshore Emergency Responder Level 4

Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT). OPEP requires that all responsible persons or the operator of an oil handling facility, should have access to personnel trained to this level.

Course Duration: 32 hours / 4 days

Refresher Frequency: 3-years (1-day refresher)

IMO Equivalent: IMO Level 2

Onshore Emergency Responder Level 3

Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), OPEP Level 3 course is for personnel responsible for identifying and implementing pollution response.

Course Duration: 24 hours / 3 days

Refresher Frequency: 3-years (1-day refresher)

Refresher Level 3/4

Department for Business and Trade (DBT), the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ) and the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT), refresher course, is for those wishing to refresh their BEIS Level 3 or 4 certificates.

Course Duration: 8 hours / 1 day

Refresher Frequency: 3-years
