OPEP Level 2 - Corporate Management Course
Formerly BEIS Level 2
Overview:
The Department for Energy Security and Net Zero (DESNZ), OPEP Level 2 course is for those personnel selected to undertake the role of an executive or corporate decision-maker, or their advisor, during an oil spill incident.
Course Duration: 4 hours / half-day
Refresher Frequency: 3-years
Accreditation: By the Nautical Institute, on behalf of DESNZ
Positions requiring OPEP Level 2 include:
Emergency Operations Manager
Operations Representative in Operations Control Unit (OCU)
Duty Manager (require a minimum of Level 2 training)
Emergency Room Manager and/or Incident Commander, within the Incident Command System (require a minimum of Level 2 training)
The course covers:
UK legislation and statutory requirements, including Oil Pollution Emergency Plans (OPEP)
Response strategies and identification of priorities
Incident management and response organisation
Effective liaison with relevant government agencies (including DESNZ, MCA and the Secretary of State’s Representative – SOSREP) and response contractors
This course has been designed to meet the DESNZ training requirements. It raises awareness of spill response for personnel undertaking the role of executive or corporate decision-maker, or their advisor, dealing with priority setting and significant external liaison during an oil spill incident.
Note - Personnel trained to OPEP Level 3 or 4 are deemed trained to OPEP Level 2
