Travel restrictions won't stop us!
Video conferencing for many of us has become the new normal, which is both good and bad, but it has allowed SpillConsult, working with the Qatar Ministry of Municipalities and Environment, to commence work on the development of a revised National Contingency Plan for the State of Qatar, for spills of oil and Hazardous & Noxious Substances that will be in line with OPRC-90, OPRC-HNS, plus current global best practises and examples.
In this period of travel restrictions and social distancing, starting major projects that would normally require face to face meetings is a major issue. Video conferencing with many of the involved stakeholders in Qatar, including some who didn’t know they would potentially be involved in a spill of oil or HNS, has allowed us, with other research, to build an understanding of the Qatari system and where they are in response preparedness and capability. From a review this information and research SpillConsult is better placed to understand any existing gaps and issues which then helps us to develop a national contingency plan that fits the requirements of the State of Qatar.
As the project progresses, we hope to be able to safely conduct some of the face to face discussions, the site visits and the workshops that are planned in 2021.
