Strategic plans

Earlier this year, SpillConsult was asked by WCMRC to write a number of strategic plans which outline their incident management philosophy and capability.  The Incident Management Plan was the first plan written and explained in detail the methodology WCMRC use to decide on what resources and specialisms to mobilise in response to an incident.  Central to this was the consideration of limitations, complexity factors and potential for escalation.  The Incident Management Plan has now been formerly launched within WCMRC.

This week, SpillConsult facilitated a workshop with WCMRC to introduce the concepts and methodology contained within the Incident Management Plan and socialise the plan amongst the wider response organisation.  The workshop began by discussing the various sections of the plan and how it follows the central themes of prudent over-response and responding to incident potential.  In the second half, participants were presented with several scenario-based exercises to practise using the plan and the methodology it outlines to assess and categorise an incident based on its distinct and unique circumstances, not just how much oil is in the water.

All who participated in the workshop expressed the benefit of having a clear methodology for incident assessment and the content of the Incident Management Plan was met with very positive feedback.   The workshop was a great opportunity for personnel to discuss the various requirements of response and how a wide range of considerations factor into decision-making.

We're looking forward to running the next workshop later this month!
