Incident Command System

ICS is the most widely used incident management system in the oil and gas industry and widely used elsewhere. There is a suite of standard courses that many clients choose from and use as key components for training their personnel. Our courses are completely ICS compliant while at the same time are written and delivered with a global perspective

Standard ICS Courses

ICS 100 - Introduction to the Incident Command System

A foundation course describing the history, features and principles of ICS, usually leading to further ICS courses. We have a standard online course but can also deliver bespoke versions if required.

ICS 200 - ICS for Single Resources and Initial Action Incidents

Another foundation course aimed at enabling supervisors to operate within the ICS. Available using our online course, often after ICS 100.

Some clients like a combined ‘Introduction to ICS’ course covering 100 and 200 bespoke to them with additions for their needs, delivered by our experts.

ICS 300/320 - ICS for Expanding Incidents

This is a key course for the energy industry who need to have the capability to manage very rare but major incidents that may have serious consequences. The course focuses on the ICS planning process and how an expanding incident management team develops an effective incident action plan while still managing the ongoing response. We structure the course around a simulated incident over the three day course. The first two days are interactive teaching of the key processes and functions using the scenario. Day three allows the delegates to apply the process as an incident management team in a coached exercise dealing with the ongoing scenario.

ICS 402 - ICS for Executives

This is a short ‘awareness’ level course, usually for senior policy makers or managers who would not normally manage the incident itself. It outlines the incident command system being used by the IMT and how the senior people interact with the IMT and manage their part of the overall response.

ICS 320 - Intermediate Incident Management Team Training

This course is often used as an IMT refresher on ICS either with an exercise or in preparation for an exercise. Our ICS 300/320 course mentioned above delivers this level of training but we offer completely flexible options for 320 level training to suit clients' requirements.

ICS 400 - Advanced Incident Command System

This course is aimed at higher level ICS supervisory roles as preparation for complex incident management. The focus is on strategic issues, higher level liaison, larger IMTs and longer term planning.

Other ICS Courses

In addition to the most common courses above, many different ‘standard’ ICS courses have been developed by different organisations over the years. SpillConsult can deliver specific ICS training courses as required by a client.
