Leading With Impact

This month, Consultants Rachel Davis and Simon Forster supported a major infrastructure project in the North East, currently in its construction phase and employing well over 1,000 personnel across three sites.

As part of our support, we delivered a half-day tabletop exercise designed to test the project’s Emergency Response Plans. The exercise provided an opportunity to validate response arrangements across a complex site with numerous stakeholders involved.

In addition to the exercise, the team completed site visits to engage directly with contractors and discuss emergency response arrangements, ensuring that plans and procedures are aligned with site operations and can be implemented effectively should an incident occur.

Throughout the visit, contractors demonstrated a strong and positive safety culture, alongside a clear commitment to continuous improvement. It was encouraging to see the level of engagement, professionalism, and ownership of safety across the workforce.

The visit also provided a valuable learning opportunity for one of our Graduate Consultants, Flynn Martienssen, as part of his professional development. Experiencing a large-scale construction project first-hand, engaging with contractors, and participating in both the site visits and exercise delivery helped build practical knowledge and understanding of emergency response.

The visit was a great success and helped reinforce preparedness for the range of risks present on site, including hot and humid weather conditions, dust exposure, unexploded ordnance, and confined space activities.
